McAlear-Sawden serves approximately 570 students, mainly from Monitor, Kawkawlin and Beaver Townships, in Bay County. We offer 4 sections of grades 1-5, in addition to kindergarten. Since the inception of “school of choice”, we have attracted many students from outside of the district. The teachers at McAlear-Sawden utilize a variety of teaching methods. Students are exposed to hands-on-learning, and technology enhanced instruction throughout the school year. McAlear-Sawden is an exciting place to learn, with a dedicated staff who strive to enhance each child's education. A variety of special subjects are included in our curriculum, such as French, Art, Physical Education, Computers, Media and Music. Additionally, we offer the Program for the Academically Talented and Special Education services, to meet the wide variety of needs of all of our students. Author visits, educational assemblies, and field trips, also support our curriculum. We have an active volunteer program and welcome parental involvement. Our fundraising activities have provided for physical improvements to our grounds, such as a reading garden, new playground equipment, Student of the Month bulletin board, a walking track, and a new road sign. If you are interested in a tour of our school, please feel free to stop by, or call me at 989-684-7702 to arrange for an appointment. Jamie Cain, |
